Georgetown Field Hockey Hosts No. 2 Syracuse for Homecoming

Oct. 9, 2008

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Georgetown field hockey team (0-10, 0-1 BIG EAST) begin Homecoming Weekend by hosting No. 2 Syracuse (12-0, 2-0 BIG EAST) at the Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex in College Park, Md. on Friday, October 10 at 6 p.m.

It will be the Hoyas first match since a 2-1 overtime loss to Rider on Sept. 30, after having matches against Connecticut and Massachusetts postponed this past weekend.

Syracuse marks the fifth NFHCA Top 20 opponent the Hoyas have met with this season and the second top five team, after taking on No. 3 North Carolina on Sept. 7. GU will be searching for its first win in team history against Syracuse losing each of the previous seven matches.

Senior Dee Crovo (Millersville, Md./Severna Park) leads the BIG EAST in saves (74) and saves per game (7.40) through 10 starts during the 2008 season. Crovo has made 285 saves in 48 career games played, including 43 starts.

Senior Maggie Farrand (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr), Junior Kristen Volpe (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central) and sophomore Micaela O'Toole (Alexadria, Va./St. Stephen's & St. Agnes) each have two goals to lead the Hoyas offense. Senior Ashton Hospodar (St. Davids, Pa./Radnor) and freshman Meggie Taylor (Ardmore, Pa./Merion Mercy Academy) each have two assists on the season.

Freshmen Taylor, Lila Samperton (Bethesda, Md./St. Stephen's & St. Agnes) and Ai Nishino (Rye, N.Y./Rye) have started each game for the Hoyas, while freshman Kalli Krumpos (Antioch, Ill./Antioch Community) has started seven.

Syracuse comes off of a 3-1 victory over Yale on Sunday and a 3-1 win over Albany on Oct. 1. SU is led by Shannon Taylor, who has recorded 39 points (15 goals, 9 assists) and Martina Loncarica, who has recorded 37 points (10 goals, 17 assists) through 12 games.
