Georgetown Field Hockey Hosts Rutgers in Season Finale; Last Home Game for Three Seniors

Oct. 25, 2007

Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University field hockey team concludes their 2007 season against Rutgers on Friday, October 26, for a 4 p.m. game at the University of Maryland Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex. The Hoyas will also be honoring their three graduating seniors, Lauren Sheets (Lutherville, Md./Garrison Forest), Kristin Twomey (Larchmont, N.Y./School of the Holy Child) and Deirdre McShea (Millersville, Md./Severna Park).

The matchup will be the 11th meeting between the two teams with Rutgers leading the head-to-head series, 6-4. Last season, Alice Murnen (Princeton, N.J./Stuart Country Day) and Chelsea Aiken (Hudson, Ohio/Western Reserve Academy) scored second-half goals to send the game to overtime, but the Hoyas fell 3-2 due to a hat-trick by Amy Lewis.

The Hoyas are currently 2-14 overall with a 0-5 mark in BIG EAST Conference play. Junior midfielder Katie Lachman leads the team in goals (9) and points (20) and adds two assists. Classmate and goalkeeper Deirdre Crovo (Millersville, Md./Severna Park) leads the conference in saves per league contest. In five BIG EAST games, Crovo has posted 41 saves, averaging 8.20 per game.

Rutgers enters this contest after losing 2-1 to Providence on October 19 and 2-1 at No. 16 Albany on October 21. The back-to-back 2-1 defeats mark four straight games in which the Scarlet Knights have been on the short end of 2-1 scores. RU has played in 13 games which have been decided by one goal and hold a 5-8 record in these games.
