Washington, D.C. - Tiffany Marsh has been named the Head Coach of the Georgetown field hockey program, it was announced today by Director of Athletics Bernard Muir. Marsh served as an Interim Head Coach during the 2007 season when the Hoyas went 2-15 with a winless mark in BIG EAST Conference action in just their second season as full members of the seven-team league. "We're thrilled to have Tiffany stay on board as our full-time head women's field hockey coach," Muir said. "During this season, she has demonstrated great leadership abilities in the position and was a very positive influence for our student-athletes. We're confident that she will continue to thrive in this role as we attempt to become even more competitive in a very challenging BIG EAST Conference." Though the overall record of the program was 2-15, the Blue and Gray entertained a tough schedule with four top-20 NFHCA/STX Division I National Coaches Poll opponents in No. 7 James Madison, No. 4 Connecticut, No. 20 Villanova and No. 13 Louisville. Four contests were decided by an overtime period with an October 14th matchup against Lafayette going to a stroke-off. In back-to-back games against ranked BIG EAST Conference opponents (No. 20 Villanova, No. 4 Connecticut), the Hoyas were able to string together four total goals, three against the Wildcats and one against the Huskies to prevent a shutout. The Huskies have recently made the NCAA Field Hockey Final Four to be held this weekend, November 16-18. The Hoyas also shut out Brown, 1-0, a team that was receiving votes in the NFHCA/STX Division I National Coaches Poll well into the season. "I'm really excited about the potential of this program," Marsh said. "I'm thrilled that the administration has given me the chance to take it to the next level." Marsh joined the Hoyas after serving as an assistant at American University for one year, guiding the Eagles to a 14-7 record and a trip to the NCAA Tournament.
Prior to her stint at AU, Marsh graduated from the University of Maryland, where she helped the Terrapins to their fourth national title in program history in her senior campaign. As a senior forward with the Terps, Marsh earned her third-consecutive Second Team All-Region award after racking up 39 points on 12 goals and a team-high 15 assists. She was also named to the 2005 NCAA All-Tournament Team. In four years with the Terrapins, Marsh accumulated 102 points while playing in 93 games, starting 80. In her senior season she started all 25 games for Maryland, surpassing her 100th point on an assist during the Terps regular season game against American at Jacobs Recreational Complex. In 2004 she played in all but one game finishing the season scoring career-highs in goals and game-winning goals, with 13 and 3, respectively. In her first two seasons she played in 46 games, starting 35, picking up a pair of game-winning goals and a total of 29 points. She has also been active on the International scene, playing for the U.S. Under-19 team, Under-18 team and Under- 16 team. Marsh has also been involved in the National Futures program and was named to the USFHA EPTC Maryland Thundersticks. The Marathon, N.Y. native, graduated in May 2006 with a degree in business and criminal justice. Marsh currently resides in Bethesda, Md. |
