Hunt Tied for 17th Place, Hoya Women's Golf Eighth at Fighting Camel Classic

Junior Carly Hunt (Easton, Pa./Conestoga) shot a seven-over par 79 and is tied for 17th place, helping the Georgetown women's golf team place eighth of 15 teams after the first round of play at the Fighting Camel Classic, being held at the Keith Hills Country Club No. 1 in Buies Creek, N.C.

With six players among the top 11 individuals, host Campbell University took a 14-stroke lead after Monday's first round.

Campbell senior Maite Ortiz de Pinedo and sophomore Belen Diaz Cisneros are tied for the individual lead with Samantha Widmer of Elon at two-over 74 heading into Tuesday's final 18 holes.

The Camels lead the 15-school field with a 13-over 301. Elon is second at 315 strokes, followed by Memphis (316), Kennesaw State (321) and Illinois State (321).

In the team's first competition for the spring season, Hunt came out strong. She had the second-best score in the field of 77 golfers with a 35 on the opening nine holes, but struggled on the back with a 44 to finish at seven-over par 79.

Hoya junior Chelsea Curtis (Mashpee, Mass./Cape Cod Academy) and senior Katie Dwyer (Allentown, Pa./Moravian Academy) are tied for 24th place at nine-over par 81 and sophomore Robyn English (Warwick, R.I./St. Mary Academy) is tied for 49th place at 12-over par 84. Senior Madeleine Nguyen (Atherton, Calif./Menlo School) is in 77th place at 29-over par 101.

Tuesday's final round will begin with a 9:30 a.m. shotgun start.
