March 10, 2004 Winter Springs, Fla. - The Georgetown University women’s golf team participated in the Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational at the Tuscawilla Country Club in Winter Springs, Fla., on Monday-Tuesday, March 8-9. The Hoyas placed ninth out of 14 teams competing, fueled by the performance of top GU finisher Christy Larrimore (So., Severna Park, Md./Archbishop Spaulding).
Georgetown shot a composite 980 (334, 322, 324) after three days of competition for the ninth spot. Miami won the tournament with a total of 910 (310, 298, 302), while Rollins College was five shots back in second place with a 915 (305, 310, 300). James Madison was third (922) and North Carolina-Greensboro garnered fourth place (949). Penn State rounded out the top five with a 954.
Larrimore posted a three-day total of 228 (76, 74, 78) on the 6,089-yard, par 72 course. Her finish tied her for sixth-place overall. Polly Willett of UNC-Greensboro and Tiffany Prats and Tina Miller of Miami tied for first place with a score of 224.
Connie Isler (Jr., Annapolis, Md./Meade) turned in the Hoyas’ second-best performance. Isler recorded 82, 84 and 80 for a 246 to tie for 39th place. Rosalina Azcolani (Coronado, Calif./Coronado) tied for 63rd after shooting a 254 (88, 85, 81). Maggie Ward (Fr., Rochester, N.Y./Greece Arcadia) and Nicole Hayashi (So., West Lake Village, Calif./Thousand Oaks) finished 66th and 68th, respectively. Ward shot a 258 (88, 85, 85), while Hayashi notched a 259 (91, 79, 89). Claire Pogue (Fr., Evansville, Ind./Central) wrapped up the tournament with a 285 (95, 98, 92).
The Hoyas will be closer to home for their next contest. Georgetown will host the Hoya Women’s Invitational at Reston Golf Course in Reston, Va., on Saturday-Sunday, March 20-21.
