Georgetown Men and Women’s Golf Teams to Compete in BIG EAST Championships

4/22/2004

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Georgetown University’s men’s and women’s golf teams will both be participating in the BIG EAST Golf Championships this upcoming weekend, April 24-25, held at the Warren Golf Course in Notre Dame, Indiana.

The women’s team, who enter the tournament as the fourth seed, is making its second-consecutive appearance in the BIG EAST Championship.  The Hoyas placed two golfers in the top 10 at the 2003 Championship. This season, the Hoyas turned in five top-10 finishes and won the Lady Eagle Invitational to qualify for the league tournament.  The Hoyas are led by sophomore Christy Larrimore (Severna Park, Md./Archbishop Spaulding), who won the Lady Eagle with a seven-over-par 149. Connie Isler (Annapolis, Md./Meade), Rosalina Ascolani (Coronado, Calif./Coronado), Nicole Hayashi (Westlake Village, Calif./Thousand Oaks) and Erin Cockren (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) have also been big contributors to the Hoyas’ 2004 season.

The Georgetown men enter the tournament as a number two seed and hope to improve on a third place finish at last year’s tournament.  The Hoya men have won four tournaments this season and are currently ranked 87th in the nation as a squad.  GU is led by seniors Jamie Farrah (Potomac, Md./ Georgetown Prep) and Nick Cook (Shelton, Conn./Fairfield Prep). Also participating in the majority of the 2004 spring events have been Matt Myers (St. Joseph, Mo./ Central High School), David Erickson (Edina, Minn./The Blake School) and Tim Moynihan (Pittsburgh, Pa./ Franklin Regional).

The first round of the tournament will begin at 8 a.m., Saturday morning, April 24.  Round two begins at 1 p.m. on Saturday, with the final round taking place on Sunday, April 25, beginning at 8 a.m.
