Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown women's golf team unveiled its Fall 2008 schedule today. The team will compete in five tournaments and will begin its season hosting the NCAA Fall Preview. The team begins play Sept. 7-8, hosting the NCAA Fall Preview at Caves Valley Golf Course in Owings Mills, Md. Fourteen teams will travel to the area to compete in the 54-hole tournament, which will serve as a preview for the 2009 NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championship, an event that Georgetown will host at Caves Valley Golf Course in May. The field for the tournament includes some of the top-14 teams in the country, including Alabama, Arizona State, Arkansas, Auburn, Denver, Duke, Florida, Georgia, Oklahoma State, Purdue, USC, Texas A&M, Virginia, Wake Forest and host Georgetown. "We're thrilled to be hosting and thrilled to be participating in the Fall Preview," Georgetown Head Coach Patty Post said. "We've had a great summer playing and we're going to be ready to take on the challenge of competing against some of the best teams in the country. It's the first opportunity we've ever had against a field like this and I hope we can continue to play against teams of that caliber to raise our level of play and generate more interest in our program." The Hoyas then begin a familiar stretch of tournaments, playing in three events they competed in last year. On Sept. 20-21, the team travels to Princeton, N.J., for the Princeton Invitational, played at the Springdale Golf Club. Last year, the team tied for third place, with rising senior Chelsea Curtis (Mashpee, Mass./Cape Cod Academy) tying for second place after posting consecutive rounds of 76. The Blue and Gray head to Madison, Wis. for the Badger Invitational, where they finished eighth last year. The tournament will be held Sept. 27-28 at Wisconsin's University Ridge Golf Course. On Oct. 10-12, the Hoyas will compete in the Xavier Invitational, where they finished sixth and Curtis tied for fourth last year. The event will be held at the Legends Course at the LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla.
The team closes out the fall season at the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate, hosted by East Carolina on Oct. 19-21. The tournament will be played at Greenville Country Club in Greenville, N.C. |
