September 8, 2003

The Georgetown University women’s golf team traveled to Myrtle Beach, S.C., to open the fall portion of the 2003-04 season.  Georgetown participated in the 36-team Unlimited Potential/Bay Tree Classic Tournament, hosted by the College of Charleston at the Bay Tree Golf Plantation on Friday-Sunday, September 5-7.  The Hoyas finished in 21st place with a two-day composite score of 648.

Coastal Carolina won the tournament with a 602, followed by James Madison in second place with 615.  The College of Charleston was just one stroke back in third place with 616, while Middle Tennessee State and Arkansas-Little Rock tied for fourth place with 618.  The individual medalist for the event was Radford University’s Laura Terebey, the only golfer to shoot under par for the tournament with a two-day total of 140 (73, 67).  Terebey ended the Classic four strokes under par.  James Madison’s Carol Green was the individual runner-up with a 147 (71, 76) on the weekend.

Sophomore Nicole Hayashi (Westlake Village, Calif.) was the Hoyas’ top finisher at the tournament.  Hayashi fired a two-day total of 161 (84, 77) to tie for 67th place with teammate Connie Isler (Jr., Annapolis, Md.) who shot 80 and 81 for the tourney. Freshman Maggie Ward tallied a 162 (85, 77) to tie for the 80th spot, and sophomore Christy Larrimore’s (Severna Park, Md.) 164 (84, 80) was good for a tie for 90th place.  Freshman Claire Pogue rounded out the GU finishers.  Pogue carded 174 (89, 85) to finish 162nd.

The Hoyas have a week off before traveling to New Haven, Conn., to compete in the Yale Women’s Fall Intercollegiate Tournament on Friday-Sunday, September 20-22.
