No. 9 GU Women's Lacrosse Gets Out to Early Lead, Cruises Past No. 18 Rutgers, 9-3

March 24, 2007

Box Score

Washington, D.C. - The No. 9 Georgetown University women's lacrosse team raced out to a 6-1 halftime lead and cruised to a 9-3 win at No. 18 Rutgers on Saturday afternoon at the RU Turf Field. The Hoyas extended their BIG EAST regular-season winning streak to 36 games. GU improves to 5-2, 2-0 in league action.

Senior attacker Coco Stanwick (Baltimore. Md./Notre Dame Prep) posted four goals to go along with an assist while junior Zan Morley (Philadelphia, Pa./Springside) scored a season-high two goals. Sophomore Bunny O'Reilly (Blue Bell, Pa./Springside) went for a goal and an assist. Hoya senior goalkeeper Maggie Koch (Philadelphia, Pa./Springside) matched a career-high with 14 saves.

"Maggie played very well in goal today, making some big saves for us," said Hoya head coach Ricky Fried. "It was a good team effort and we gave up only shots we wanted to give up."

Stanwick and Brittany Baschuk (Chevy Chase, Md./Stone Ridge) both netted unassisted goals in the first seven minutes. O'Reilly scored after an assist from Stanwick at 19:34 and less than three minutes later senior Schuyler Sutton (Annapolis, Md./Severn School) got in the scoring column with an unassisted tally for a 4-0 GU advantage.

Morley scored off a free position shot at 8:42 before Stanwick scored after making a strong offensive move to increase the Hoya lead to 6-0.

Michelle Poole scored RU's first goal with just one second left in the first half.

Rutgers (6-2, 1-1 BE) cut the Hoya lead to 6-2 five minutes into the second half but the Hoyas then tallied the game's next three goals for a 9-2 edge.

Senior defender Chloe Asselin (Taillores, France/Edgemont) had a team-high three gorund balls for the Hoyas.

Georgetown has now won eight straight games over the Scarlet Knights. The three goals allowed is the fewest Georgetown has yielded all season.
