Hoyas Score Season-High 18 Goals to Race Past George Washington

Washington, D.C. - Georgetown University seniors Coco Stanwick (Baltimore, Md./Notre Dame Prep) and Schuyler Sutton (Annapolis, Md./Severn School) combined for 11 goals with Sutton netting a career-high five goals as the No. 11 Hoya women's lacrosse team topped the visiting George Washington Colonials, 18-7 on Friday evening. The Hoyas improve to 8-6 on the year and will play take part in their final home game of the season on Sunday, April 22 when GU squares off with No. 19 Connecticut in BIG EAST action.

Stanwick finished with 10 draw controls which helped the Hoyas control the tempo of the game. Freshman Ashby Kaestner (Trappe, Md./Saints Peter and Paul) tallied three goals for the second straight game and junior Patty Piotrowicz (Plymouth Meeting, Md./Plymouth) posted a season-high four caused turnovers.

The game was tied at the 20:46 mark of the first half but Georgetown scored the next five goals over a ten minute stretch to take a 6-2 with 11:59 left. Sutton scored her first goal on a free position shot before Bunny O'Reilly (Blue Bell, Pa./Springside) tallied an unassisted marker at 19:31. Stanwick two the next two goals followed by a marker from Sutton with O'Reilly handed out two helpers on those three goals.

After a GW goal by Kristina Harvey, the Hoyas scored six of the next eight goals to take an 11-5 lead into the break. The Hoyas led at intermission for the just the second time in its last three games.

Katherine Sampson scored the first goal of the second half but the Hoyas tallied the next three goals for a 14-6 lead with 21:13 to go. The pace of the game slowed considerably with Georgetown scoring two goals over the final 9:34 of action.

 

 

Georgetown senior Ali Rogers (Cortland Manor, N.Y./Walter Panas) posted three ground balls to go along with two caused turnovers.

The Hoyas outshot the Colonials, 36-14 and won the draw control battle, 19-7.

Prior to Sunday's game with the UConn, the GU Athletic Department will recognize the Hoya seniors who will be playing their final game on the Hilltop.
