Washington, D.C. - Senior Patty Piotrowicz (Plymouth Whitemarsh, Pa.) scored the game-winning goal with 7:11 to go and the Hoyas were able to control possession over the final four-plus minutes as the seventh-ranked Georgetown University women's lacrosse team edged No. 6 Princeton, 9-8 on Saturday afternoon at the Multi-Sport Field. GU gave graduating seniors Zan Morley (Philadelphia, Pa), Piotrowicz and Amelia Wesselink (Exeter, N.H.) a victory in their final regular-season home game.

Georgetown trailed 6-4 at halftime but won six of the eight draw controls in the second half while the Hoyas held a 28-13 advantage in ground balls for the game.

Sophomores Molly Ford (Reisterstown, Md.) and Ashby Kaestner (Trappe, Md.) and freshman Jordy Kirr (Baltimore, Md.) all recorded two goals.

Kirr handed out three more assists and now has 36 assists on the season which is the second most on Georgetown's single-season list, four shy of Sheehan Stanwick Burch's 40 helpers.

Sophomore Caitlin Formby (Towson, Md.) made six saves in the victory.

Eleven of the 14 games between Princeton and Georgetown have now been decided by two goals or less.

Georgetown (12-6) put themselves in good position to earn an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Tournament Selection Show is scheduled for Monday, May 5 between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. and can been seen on CBS College Sports (formerly CSTV).

Princeton falls to 12-4.

The score was tied six times at 1-1, 2-2, 4-4, 6-6, 7-7 and 8-8.

The Hoyas went ahead 3-2 with 16:32 to go in the half. Formby made a great save on a free position attempt and following a perfectly executed clear - Kaestner to Logan McCraw (Malvern, Pa.), Morley finished the sequence ripping a low shot in transition.

Mary Beth Brophy upped the Hoya lead to 4-2 with her sixth goal of the season, an unassisted tally with 11:30 before intermission.

Princeton scored four straight consecutive goals over the final ten minutes of the period and took a 6-4 lead into the break. It was the seventh time this season that Georgetown trailed at the break.

Princeton was able to win seven of the first half's 11 draws to control the pace during their scoring streak in the first half

Kirr scored after taking a Kaestner pass off the first second half draw closed the Hoya deficit to 6-5.

The Hoyas tied the game at 6-6 as Kaestner and Kirr connected again. This time, Kaestner took a Kirr pass and Kaestner tickled the twine for her 49th goal of the season.

Kirr netted her second goal of the day with Ford getting an assist at 18:01 to tie game at 7-7 after Formby made another save.

Piotrowicz gave the Hoyas a 9-8 lead to close a long offensive possession. A nifty dodge followed by a left-handed shot with 7:11 left in regulation proved to the game-winner.

Princton's Holly McGarvie totaled two goals, an assist, two ground balls and two draws before injuring her knee in the second half.
