Elbe's Four Goals Pace Hoyas In 12-3 Win Over Tribe

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Mar. 12) - Sophomore All-American attacker Erin Elbe scored a season-high four goals to lead the #6-ranked Georgetown University women's lacrosse team to a 12-3 win over #17 William & Mary under cold and blustery conditions March 12 at Kehoe Field. The Hoyas improve to 3-0 with the victory, while the Tribe falls to 1-2.

Georgetown dominated the first half of play, outscoring William & Mary 7-1. Junior All-American attacker Sheehan Stanwick put the Hoyas on the scoreboard first when she capitalized on a free position shot at the 26:53 mark. Junior midfielder Sarah Oglesby made it 2-0 when she scored at 24:30 from an eight-meter mark free position shot. The Tribe's Colette Chaput responded at 11:31 to make the score 2-1 off an assist from Lindsey Lowman. Stanwick notched her second goal of the half when she picked up a feed from junior midfielder Reagan Raneri at the 10:29 mark. Oglesby then stepped up with her second goal of the day at 7:57 to push the score to 4-1. Freshman midfielder Elizabeth Ryan made it 5-1 with just over 5:34 on the clock. Freshman attacker Wick Stanwick was credited with the assist. Sheehan Stanwick set Elbe up for her first goal of the contest at 3:58 to give GU a 6-1 lead. Two minutes later sophomore attacker Kate Ahearn found the back of the net on a free position shot to end the half with the score 7-1 in favor of the Hoyas.

The second period opened with Georgetown reeling off three-straight goals to take a 10-1 advantage. Ahearn struck first just 36 seconds into the half off an assist from senior attacker Jori Keating. Elbe then tallied back-to-back goals at the 26:20 and 25:05 marks. Senior midfielder Kristen Baer assisted on Elbe's second goal of the period. William & Mary's Allison Evans took advantage of a free position shot at 23:52 to make the score 10-2. Freshman attacker Wick Stanwick was successful on a free position shot at 14:01 to give GU a nine-point lead (11-2). W&M's Lowman found Amy Pugno for the Tribe's third, and last, score of the game at 11:23. Elbe tallied the final goal of the contest with 7:29 remaining to give Georgetown a 12-3 victory.

Junior Bowen Holden and sophomore Chandler Vicchio split time in the goal cage for the Hoyas. Holden rejected 10 shots on the day while allowing three goals, and Vicchio turned away one W&M shot. Senior netminder Jacque Orsi recorded 17 saves for the Tribe, while allowing 12 goals. The Hoyas outshot the Commodores 38-20 and held an 8-6 edge on draws.

The Hoyas embark on a four-game road trip starting March 15, when they take on the Villanova Wildcats at 4:00 p.m.
