Washington, D.C. - The ninth-ranked and Georgetown University women's lacrosse team travels south to take on No. 4 Duke on Saturday, March 15. The first draw control is set for noon at Koskinen Stadium in Durham, N.C.. Live stats will be available at www.goduke.com. Georgetown and Duke rank first and second, repsectively in the laxpower.com strength of schedule rantings. The teams are separated by just percentage points. Georgetown has started the season 5-0 for the first time under head coach Ricky Fried and for the first time since 2004. Duke is 6-1 overall, 1-0 in the ACC. The Blue Devils rebounded from a 13-8 loss at No. 7 Princeton last Saturday with a 20-6 home win over Vermont on Tuesday. Duke is in the midst of an 18-game home winning streak that dates back to April 7, 2006. Georgetown in the Series vs. Duke ... Duke leads the all-time series, 8-6 and the Blue Devils have won three straight games. The schools have squared off against one another in every season since 1996. The Hoyas were victorious during NCAA Tournament games over the Blue Devils in 2002 and 2004. Georgetown is 2-4 in Durham. Saturday's game will mark the seventh time that Georgetown headed into the Duke game undefeated. The Blue Devils put a blemish on the Hoyas unbeaten start in 2001, 2003, 2005 and 2006. In 2002 and 2004, Georgetown was able to extend its winning streak to start the season. Quick Hits ... GU has tallied nine goals in a half in three different games this season. 58 of the Georgetown's 65 goals have been scored by underclassmen. Georgetown's leading scoring, sophomore Ashby Kaestner (Trappe, Md./Saints Peter and Paul) will play opposite her younger sister, Christie. The Blue Devil freshman has eight goals and six assists. Three Hoyas, Kaestner, sophomore Molly Ford (Reisterstown, Md./Notre Dame Prep) and freshman Jordy Kirr (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) have eclipsed the 20-point plateau already. Kaestner leads the team with 21 goals and 25 points. Ford has posted 16 goals and nine assists while Kirr had compiled six goals and 16 assists.
Kaestner has at least two goals in every game while tallying at least five goals three different times Ford has at least three points in every game this season. Kirr has dished out at least two assists in every game and has two five-assist efforts to her credit. Junior defender Jordan Trautman (Mystic, Conn./Loomis Chaffee School) paces the team with 14 ground balls. Sophomore goaltender Caitlin Formby (Towson, Md./Notre Dame Prep) is averaging better than seven assists per game and boasts a goals-against-average of 8.4. Georgetown has had a lead at halftime in four of the season's first five games. |
