Georgetown 18, Syracuse 6
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Senior All-American attacker Sheehan Stanwick (Baltimore, Md./Notre Dame Prep) tallied five goals and junior All-American attacker Erin Elbe (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) added four goals to lead the #2 Georgetown University Hoyas to a 18-6 victory over the tenth-ranked Syracuse Orangewomen in women's lacrosse action today on Kehoe Field. The win was Georgetown's 13th-straight on Kehoe Field. Junior defender Carrie Soults led the Orange with three goals. Georgetown jumped out to a 1-0 lead on Wick Stanwick's (Baltimore, Md./Notre Dame Prep) first of two goals just 1:15 into the contest. Syracuse answered but fell behind 2-1 when Sheehan Stanwick found the back of the net with 21:00 remaining in the first half. Following another goal by the Orangewomen, and a 2-2 tie, the Hoyas took the lead for good posting five unanswered goals and taking a 7-2 lead with 6:35 left in the opening half. Erin Elbe recorded two of the five goals while Sarah Oglesby (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul's), Sheehan Stanwick, and Elizabeth Ryan (Baltimore, Md./Roland Park) all added another. Georgetown gave up two more scores but entered half-time leading 7-4. The Hoyas allowed another goal 1:03 into the second half shortening their lead to 7-5. GU then went on another offensive spurt scoring five goals over the next 10 minutes increasing their lead to 12-5. Erin Elbe got goals three and four in the explosion while Anouk Peters (Ipswich, Mass./Millbrook School), Wick Stanwick, and Melissa Ellers (Swarthmore, Pa./Strath Haven) added scores. Syracuse put one more on the board but never challenged as the Hoyas added six more goals including three from Sheehan Stanwick and one from each Caitlin McLean (Jenkintown, Pa./Jenkintown), Sarah Oglesby, and Gloria Lozano (Pittsburgh, Pa./Sewickly Academy). Junior goalie Chandler Vicchio (Baltimore, Md./Mount de Sales Academy) posted 11 saves on the day for Georgetown to earn the win, while netminders Carla Gigon and Tegan Leonard combined for six saves for Syracuse. The Hoyas outshot the Orangewomen 27-23 but fell 12-11 on draws. Georgetown is now 5-0 on the season while the loss drops Syracuse to 0-4. The Hoyas next game is on Saturday, March 24, when Duke pays a visit to Kehoe Field at 12:00 p.m.
