CHESTNUT HILL, MASS. -- Senior All-American attacker Sheehan Stanwick
(Baltimore, Md./Notre Dame Prep) tallied six goals, while junior All-American
attacker Erin Elbe (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) added three goals and five
assists, to lead #5 Georgetown University to an 18-3 victory over the Eagles
of Boston College in women's lacrosse action on Wednesday, March 28, in Chestnut
Hill, Mass. Senior attacker Emily Ryan led the BC in scoring with two goals on
the day. The Hoyas improve to 6-1 overall and 3-1 in BIG EAST play, while the
Eagles fall to 1-5 overall and 0-2 in league play.
Sheehan Stanwick rattled off two unassisted goals to give the Hoyas a 2-0 lead just three minutes and twenty seconds into the game. Boston College got on the scoreboard at the 23:53 mark with an unassisted goal from junior midfielder Chrisse DeMichele to make the score 2-1. Elbe responded with her first goal of the contest off a feed from sophomore midfielder Liz Ryan (Baltimore, Md./Roland Park). Freshman midfielder Gloria Lozano (Pittsburgh, Pa./Sewickly Academy) found the back of the net off an assist by Elbe to give the Hoyas a 4-1 edge with 18:52 on the clock. Once again BC came back with a goal by Ryan 15 seconds later to pull within two points (4-2). Georgetown's offense then kicked into high gear and reeled off six consecutive goals, three more from Sheehan Stanwick, to take a 10-2 lead into halftime. Georgetown entered the second half of play by tallying back-to-back goals, one by sophomore Wick Stanwick (Baltimore, Md./Notre Dame Prep), and another by senior All-American midfielder Caitlin McLean (Jenkintown, Pa./Jenkintown), to go up 13-2. Elbe assisted on both goals. Ryan scored the Eagles lone goal of the period at 22:12 to make it 13-3, then the Hoyas took control over the game. Sheehan Stanwick notched her sixth score of the day, and sophomore attacker Kate Ahearn (Balitmore, Md./St. Paul's), Wick Stanwick, sophomore midfielder Tracy Weickel (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington), freshman midfielder Anouk Peters (Ipswich, Mass./Millbrook School) and junior attacker Margaux Hauss (Annappolis, Md./Annapolis) added a goal apiece to seal an 18-3 win for the Hoyas. Junior goalie Chandler Vicchio (Balitmore Md./Mount de Sales Academy) turned away five BC shots while allowing three goals in her second collegiate start. BC goalie Rachel Zeller stopped 12 GU shots in the contest while allowing 18 goals on the day. The Hoyas' next game is on Saturday, March 31, when the team travels to Piscataway, N.J., to take on the Scarlet Knights of Rutgers at 12:00 Noon.
