GU Women's Lacrosse Defeats James Madison, 10-8

Harrisonburg, Va. (April 22) - Junior Sheehan Stanwick (Baltimore, Md./Notre Dame Prep) and sophomore Erin Elbe (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) each scored two goals as fifth-ranked Georgetown defeated fourth-ranked James Madison, 10-8, on April 22. With the victory, the Hoyas improved their record to 9-3. James Madison fell to 11-4.

The Hoyas took control of the game early in the second half. After JMU's Jule Martinez scored on a free position shot to tie the game at five, the Hoyas scored the next four goals to take a commanding 9-5 lead. Elbe scored on a feed from Sheehan Stanwick just two minutes after the Dukes tied the game. Stanwick then scored at the 25 minute mark of the second half to give GU a 7-5 lead. Elizabeth Ryan (Baltimore, Md./Roland Park) and Susan Stewart (Wyndmoor, Pa./Springfield) also scored for the Hoyas during that stretch. JMU cut the lead to 9-6 with just over 10 minutes to play, but Sarah Oglesby (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul's) gave the Hoyas an insurance goal with 7:33 to play. James Madison pulled to within two goals with 1:17 to go, but that would be as close as they would get.

James Madison got on the board first when Lisa Staedt scored on a free position shot at the 25:39 mark. The Hoyas scored the next two goals as senior midfielder Kristen Baer (Norristown, Pa./Plymouth Whitemarsh) and junior midfielder Reagan Raneri (Baltimore, Md./Roland Park) each found the back of the net. After the Dukes tied it, Elbe and Stanwick scored goals within 47 seconds of each other to give the Hoyas a 4-2 lead. Kate Ahearn (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul's) scored the team's final goal of the half as GU went to break with a 5-4 lead.

Junior goalkeeper Bowen Holden (Lincoln, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury) had another solid game in the cage for GU. She made 15 saves in the contest. Jennifer Corradini turned aside eight shots for James Madison. The teams each had 31 shots in the game.

Georgetown returns to action on Tuesday, April 25, when UMBC pays a visit to the Hilltop for a 3:30 p.m. game on Kehoe Field.
