May 5, 2006 Washington, D.C. - The 2006 BIG EAST Champion Georgetown University women's lacrosse team plays its final regular-season game this Saturday, May 6, at No. 12 Johns Hopkins. Georgetown carries a No. 4 national ranking into the contest with game time set for 1 p.m. on Hopkins' Homewood Field. Georgetown was crowned BIG EAST Champion and earned an automatic bid to the 2006 NCAA Championship last weekend after defeating Loyola 9-8 in overtime. It is the sixth straight season the Hoyas have won the league crown. GU succeeded in keeping two unbeaten streaks alive with the win, a 34-0 all-time record against conference foes and a 7-0 home record in 2006. The fifth overtime game of the season was won by senior Paige Andrews (Newtown Square, Pa./Archbishop Carroll), who netted her second score of the game with 13 ticks remaining in the second overtime. Hopkins is where Hoya Head Coach Ricky Fried spent his first nine years of coaching before coming to the Hilltop in 2003. The Blue Jays have amassed a 12-3 mark this season but have gone 2-2 in their last four contests with both losses coming on the road, at Northwestern and at Penn State. JHU is 7-1 at home and defeated Towson 16-11 on Tuesday. The Series with Hopkins...Georgetown and Johns Hopkins rekindled their rivalry for the first time in 15 years last season with JHU winning 14-10 in D.C.
