Georgetown Women's Soccer Concludes Navy Tournament with 1-1 Tie Against Davidson

Aug. 27, 2006

Box Score

Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown women's soccer team posted their second-straight tie to start the 2006 season with a 1-1 final against Davidson on Sunday at the Navy Tournament in Annapolis, Md.

The Hoyas opened the scoring early with a goal in the first five minutes, but the Wildcats held them at bay the rest of the way and added the equalizer in the 64th minute.

Senior Chrissy Skogen (San Marino, Calif./San Marino) scored her first goal of the year at 4:14, heading home a corner kick from junior Karen Waskewich (Laytonsville, Md./Academy of Holy Cross). Waskewich has now assisted on all three Hoya goals this season.

Davidson would tie the game at 63:33 on a header by Neely Meeks, knocking in a free kick from Nancy Haskell.

The Wildcats outshot Georgetown 16-8 and held a 12-4 edge in corner kicks.

Junior goalkeeper Jade Higgins (Island Park, N.Y./West Hempstead) had two saves for the Hoyas.

There was a score correction from Friday's tie to Binghamton, as the Hoyas second goal was changed to junior Elaina Filauro (Denville, N.J./Morris Knolls). Senior Alexandra Hardy (Lakewood, N.J./Long Beach Poly) and Waskewich were awarded assists on the play.

Georgetown returns to action on Friday, September 1, when they host the D.C. Invitational at N. Kehoe Field. American and Duquesne will face-off at noon, followed by the Hoyas and George Mason at 3 p.m.
