Syracuse, N.Y. - Georgetown women's soccer (10-2-1, 3-1-1 BIG EAST) lost a 1-0 heartbreaker in double overtime to BIG EAST conference foe, Syracuse. This is the second road loss for the Hoyas as the Hoyas remain undefeated at home.
The game was statistically even today as Georgetown recorded 12 shots and 3 corners to the Orange's 13 and five, respectively. Georgetown goalkeeper Jade Higgins (Island Park, N.Y.) posted four saves to SU's Emily Kowalczyk, who posted five.
The first half saw two very equal teams battling on the field. Both Higgins and Kowalczyk saved three shots in the first half to make it a scoreless period, 0-0.
The second half was scoreless as well, with both teams taking five shots. Syracuse (3-5-4, 2-0-3 BIG EAST) had a slight advantage with three corner kicks to GU's zero, but were unable to capitalize leaving the game scoreless at the end of regulation.
The Hoyas were firing in the first overtime period, taking three shots to SU's one. However, none of the shots found net and the game extended into the second overtime period.
Just over three minutes into the second overtime period SU's Nicole Spartano found her opening on the upper right corner of the goal off a pass from Lauren Cappelli and scored the game winning goal for the Orange.
The Hoyas are now 3-1-1 in the BIG EAST following this weekend's games.
