Hoyas Lose in Overtime on Senior Day; Fall to Louisville, 1-0

Oct. 28, 2007

Box Score |  Women's Soccer vs. Louisville

Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University women's soccer team (13-6-0, 6-5-0 BIG EAST) lost an evenly played, overtime affair on Senior Day this afternoon to Louisville (12-4-2, 7-3-1 BE), 1-0. Before the game, the Hoyas recognized their eight graduating seniors in a short pregame ceremony.

Both teams finished with an identical eight shots in the contest, but the Cardinals' one in overtime provided the difference. Louisville's Caitlin Rehder found herself in a footrace with a GU defender after a flurry of activity at the other end of the pitch. Rehder's initial try was deflected, but she collected herself and beat Georgetown goalkeeper Jade Higgins (Island Park, N.Y./West Hempstead) to the top right corner.

The Blue and Gray had numerous opportunities as they created nine corner-kick situations, opposed to Louisville's two.

"I felt we were the better team today," said Head Coach Dave Nolan. "I really felt we had them, and I don't say that much. We continued to create opportunities against them but there were a lot of factors (wind, UofL's defense and goalkeeper Joanna Haig) that contributed to us not being able to get that one goal we needed."

The Hoyas will now travel to Storrs, Conn. for the quarterfinals of the BIG EAST Tournament. Georgetown will play Connecticut on Sunday, November 4 from Joseph J. Morrone Stadium.
