Washington, D.C. - Georgetown University Head Coach Dave Nolan announced today that seven student-athletes have signed National Letters of Intent to join the Hoyas next season. Samantha Baker (Long Beach, Calif./Wilson), Kelly D'Ambrisi (Trumbull, Conn./Our Lady of Mercy), Elizabeth Hanna (Waxhaw, N.C./Weddington), Gabrielle Miller (Wayne, Pa./Radnor), Larkin Nixon (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg), Camille Trujillo (Albuquerque, N.M./St. Pius X) and Marissa Wing (East Greenbush, N.Y./Columbia) will join newcomer Greta Mjoll Samuelsdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland) and the rest of last year's returnees for the 2008 fall season. "This incoming class is another strong, talented and balanced set of recruits," Nolan said. "All eight have the ability and experience to make a contribution right away. I am really excited about them joining our program and seeing how they progress on the field and in the class room over the next four years." Baker captains Wilson High School, where she is a three-time All-league selection. She currently plays her club soccer at CRSC Infinity in Southern California's Coast League, one of the toughest leagues in the nation. In addition, as a member of the Cal South ODP program she has had competed against some of the best players in the nation. "Sam is a tremendous athlete who has very strong technical skills and a great understanding of the game. Her ability to play both flanks very well gives us a dimension that we lacked this year. Her pace is a big plus; I fully expect her to contribute right away and am excited to see how she develops over the next four years. " D'Ambrisi is a member of the Region 1 Olympic Development Program Team. In addition, she is a part of the Connecticut State ODP Team and plays her club soccer for the CUFC Lazers. As a key member of Our Lady of Mercy-Lauralton Hall's varsity team she was named captain and also earned All-State and All-Conference honors this year.
"Kelly is somebody with a bright future ahead of her at Georgetown. She is an attacking player with strong creative instincts and is a very good athlete also. Her experience and versatility is invaluable and I expect her to contribute in a few spots this fall. We are very happy to have Kelly join us for the next four years." Hanna is a member of the U-17 National Pool and has represented her Country at the U-17 & U-16 level. She is a four-time member of the Region III Olympic Development Program and is a six-time North Carolina State ODP player. At Weddington High School she was named an NSCAA All-American in 2006 and also the NCSA Student Athlete of the Year in 2007. "Elizabeth is a very technical goalkeeper with a wealth of playing experience. With excellent hands, a great kicking game and a strong understanding of the position I expect her to compete with our other Goalkeepers for the starting job. I am very excited to add Liz to an already strong goalkeeping complement." Miller is a member of the FC Delco Fury, three-time State Cup Champion and one of the premier teams nationally. At Radnor High School she was team captain and two-time MVP. She was named First Team All-County, All-League and the Main Line Player of the Year this season. "Gabby is an exceptional defender with great pace. She is strong, aggressive and fearless in the tackle, and leads by example on a daily basis. I believe she will compete straight away for a starting spot along the backline. I fully expect her to have a great career here on the hilltop." Nixon is a past member of the Region I Olympic Development Team and the Maryland State Team. She plays her club soccer for SYA Elite and varsity soccer at Glenelg High School. She is also a member of the Washington Freedom U-20 team. "Larkin is a tough, hardnosed defender who can play anywhere along the back line. With good technical ability and experience of competing at a high level I feel she will be a huge surprise next Fall. I am excited to welcome her to our program for the next four years." Samuelsdottir is a member of the Full Icelandic National Team and has represented her country many times at Senior, U-21, U-19 & U-17 level. She played her club soccer at Breidablik FC, one of the leading clubs in Iceland. This March she will represent her country at the Algarve Cup in Portugal, one of the premier women's soccer international events. "Greta is a very explosive attacking player with wonderful technical and athletic skills. She can score goals, create them and is a real danger on set pieces. Her experience in playing at the highest level of the women's game leads me to believe she will have a huge impact on our program. I am thrilled to have a player of Greta's background as part of our program and look forward to seeing her play this upcoming season." Trujillo is a member of the New Mexico Olympic Development Program and is a former member of the U-15 National Team and Region IV ODP team. As a part of Rio Vista Soccer Club she has competed in some of the nation's premier showcases. She played her varsity soccer at St. Pius X helping her team to four AAAA State Championships. She was also invited to the Nike Premier 50 in 2006, an invitational event for the top-50 high school prospects in the country. "Camille is an exciting attacking player with a great understanding for the game. With very strong technical skills and good pace she can play in a variety of offensive positions for us. I am looking forward to seeing her develop into a very good college player over these next four years." Wing is a member of the Region 1 Olympic Development Program and Eastern New York State team. She has played for some of the premier club programs in the country and currently plays for Parsippany SC. In addition, she was an All-State & All-Section selection at Columbia High School. "Marissa is a strong, physical player with great soccer instincts. She can play at the back or in midfield and is very comfortable on the ball, starting attacks with her passing ability. I expect her to have a strong role for us next year and in the years to come." |
