Hoya Women’s Soccer Adds Five Recruits to the 2002 Roster

2/13/2002

WASHINGTON—Georgetown University women’s soccer coach Diane Drake announced the signing of five players to national letters of intent for the upcoming soccer season. Shara McNeil (Avon, Conn./Avon), Alexandra Hardy (Lakewood, Calif./Long Beach Poly), Louisa Butler (Andover, Mass./Philips Academy), Ashley Darcy (Coral Springs, Fla./American Heritage) and Lindsay Berz (Golden, Colo./J.K. Mullen) have committed to play soccer for the Hoyas.

McNeil, Hardy and Berz will join the Hoyas’ midfield. McNeil, a three-year member of the Region I Olympic Development Team, currently plays for the four-time Connecticut state champion Yankee United Rage. In addition to being an All-State and All-New England selection, she also holds Avon High School’s career scoring record. Hardy currently plays for the Southern California Blues who have won over 12 prestigious tournament championships, including the 2001 USYSA National Cup Championship. Hardy is also a member of the Southern California Olympic Development State Team. A 1999 member of the Olympic Development Region IV Team, Berz plays outside midfielder for the six-time Colorado State Champion club team Colorado Rush.

Darcy, a defender, led American Heritage to two Florida State Championship victories as well as a spot in the Region III Finals. She is also a member of the Olympic Development Region III Team.

Butler enters Georgetown looking to compete for a goalkeeping spot. Currently Butler plays for the Greater Boston Bolts, who have won the Massachusetts State Championship four out of the last five years. A member of the ODP Region I soccer team, Butler also served as captain for Philips Academy’s New England Prep School Class A Championship basketball and lacrosse teams.

Georgetown finished the 2001 season with an 11-7-1 overall record, a 1-4-1 BIG EAST record and an ECAC Division I Women’s Soccer title. The Hoyas were ranked as high as ninth in the Mid-Atlantic Region by Soccer Buzz and the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) throughout the season.
