Washington, D.C. - Welcome to the first installment of the highly-anticipated Hoya Women's Soccer blog! Quick recap of the season so far: We're off to an amazing start at 8-0-2 and 3-0 in the BIG EAST. We're tied for first with Notre Dame and are currently ranked 18th in the country, our highest ranking ever. With the guys also being ranked, we're one of only six schools in the country to have both their men's and women's programs in the Top 25. This past weekend we traveled up to the glorious state of New Jersey, my home state, to play Seton Hall on Friday night. Our pregame began in a caged room within the Seton Hall locker room and thankfully DJ Shawty (Caitlin Durkee) had brought her speakers so we could jam to the playlist created by Courtney Kent. Important fact about the women's soccer team: We are committed to our music and have quite possibly some of the best singers and rappers on the Georgetown campus. Highlights from the playlist include Whatever You Like by T.I, Let it Rock by Kevin Rudolf featuring Lil Wayne, Drop by the Ying Yang Twins, Swing by Savage, and Marco Polo by Bow Wow featuring Soulja Boy. (Come to our home games this weekend and hear for yourself!) After a solid pregame in a racquetball court we headed out into the rain to begin our warm-up. Despite some tough weather conditions and a quick turf field, we came away with a strong 2-0 win. Both goals came from two very talented freshmen. The first was a shot by Samantha Baker over the keeper's head and the second was from Camille Trujillo, who finished a deflection from Toni Marie Hudson. It's great playing in Jersey because we get to see some recent alums who now work New York. Elaina Filauro and Sarah Fetters cheered from the stands, but we sorely missed one of our favorite fans, Snoop, who could not attend because "he does not do the rain." After taking care of business in Jersey, we returned to Georgetown late Friday night on quite possibly the worst bus ride since the eight-hour drive from St. John's to Syracuse in 2005. On Sunday, Jersey came to us as we faced the Scarlet Knights of Rutgers. After a Rutgers shot rebounded off the post in the first five minutes, it looked as though it may be a long game. However, we remained focused as the devoted Hoya Blue cheered... check that, heckled anyone in a red shirt. Another big showing by the GU class of 2012 provided the difference. The goal came from our special freshman Kelly D'Ambrisi off a sick throw-in from Samantha Baker, which is so good it's basically a cross. This 1-0 win over Rutgers extends our unbeaten streak to 10 games. Baaallinnn... Special shout-out to our defense, which has been amazing and have yet to concede a goal to a BIG EAST opponent and recorded 7 shutouts thus far. We are in the middle of another week of training while preparing for HUGE games this weekend. We have Syracuse at 3:00 on Friday and St. John's at 1:00 on Sunday, both up on North Kehoe. This is our second-to-last home weekend so come be a part of our unprecedented undefeated start as we look to extend our BIG EAST record to 5-0. Hopefully we can get another pair of wins and rock all BIG EAST teams from the New York-New Jersey area. GO HOYAS! And to answer questions about how we came up with the name for this blog...
