Washington, D.C. - Welcome back to the women's soccer blog. It's been a very busy week so far with three games in a five-day span. The first of which was against No. 1 Notre Dame on Friday. Although it was disappointing to lose our undefeated record, it was a hard fought game as both teams played well. We held our own and Notre Dame benefited from a somewhat questionable call by the referee, which our coach "quietly" disputed. We're all extremely hopeful to face Notre Dame in the BIG EAST Tournament. Sunday was our Senior Game against DePaul as pre-norovirus rescheduling would have made it the last home game of our regular season. The contest also marked the debut of our new warm-up tape. After the seniors took the field with their parents, it was time for the team to take care of business and beat DePaul by a resounding 4-0 score. For the first five minutes of the game, it looked as if we would score a handful of goals but we could not seem to find the back of the net. However, we did manage to find the goal posts and cross-bar. We finally scored after 18 minutes of play after a free-kick taken by Caitlin Durkee found Samantha Baker. We scored almost immediately in the second half by way of another free-kick from Durkee, when she picked out Stephanie Zare. Eight minutes later, Kelly D'Ambrisi scored off a cross from Camille Trujillo and finally, Norah Swanson buried the ball from the six-yard line for a 4-0 final. Norah's goal was the likes of which we usually only see in practice.
Our third game of the homestand was Tuesday against Syracuse, which we were all excited to play. After sending the Orange back home almost 10 days ago due to our minor outbreak, we invited them back to North Kehoe with the clear intent of winning. After going scoreless this weekend, Toni Hudson apparently had her goals saved in reserve as she was the only Hoya scoring against Syracuse (thanks in part to her new Nike cleats!) This weekend we make the trek to wonderful Morgantown, West Virginia, where one redeeming quality is the Sheetz located by campus. For those of you unfamiliar with Sheetz, it is an attempt to mimic the greatness of Wawa. It is always difficult to play at WVU because you must always be on the look-out for the Mountaineer and his musket. On Saturday, we drive over to Pittsburgh for our Sunday game against the Panthers as we hope to return home with two more BIG EAST wins. |
