Georgetown Falls to Syracuse, 2-1

October 21, 2001

Washington, D.C. Georgetown's record fell to 8-6-1, 2-5-1 in the BIG EAST, after the Hoyas lost a 2-1 decision to Syracuse University today. Syracuse’s record improved to 9-5 overall.

The two teams battled through an entire half of scoreless play before Georgetown got on the board at 55:02. Karin Ostrander (Atherton, Calif./Menlo Atherton), after receiving a pass from Alyssa Conlow (Allentown, N.J./Hamilton), tapped the ball to Nicole DePalma (Thiells, N.Y./North Rockland), who dribbled in and snuck a goal past fallen Syracuse goalkeeper Shannon Myers, making the score 1-0.

Syracuse responded with two quick goals twenty minutes later to steal the lead away from the Hoyas and record the win. Nina Scalzo scored her first of two goals at 71:39 when she booted a shot into the upper right-hand corner of the goal just out of the reach of Hoya goalie Shereena Chang (Miami, Fla./Ransom Everglades). Scalzo blasted in the game winner at 74:17 after collecting a free kick from teammate Tracy Stalker.

Chang tallied four saves in the losing effort. SU’s Myers also finished the day with four saves. The Hoyas continue their BIG EAST campaign on Friday, October 26 as they host West Virginia at 3 p.m. on Harbin Field.
