11/9/2001

WASHINGTON, D.C. –Georgetown freshman Nicole DePalma (Theills, N.Y./North Rockland) has been named to the women’s soccer All-BIG EAST Rookie Team. DePalma is part of the first nationally ranked recruiting class in Georgetown history. The new Hoyas were ranked 37th in the nation out of 300 Division I schools and sixth in the Mid-Atlantic region.

DePalma, a midfielder, was tied for second on the team this year in scoring with four goals and two assists totaling ten points. She started all 17 of the Hoyas’ games this season and scored the game-winner in Georgetown’s 3-2 double overtime win over American. DePalma also scored the lone goal in two of Georgetown’s 2-1 BIG EAST losses.

Georgetown finished the 2001 season with a 9-7-1 overall record and a 1-4-1 record in BIG EAST play. The Hoyas were ranked as high as ninth in the Mid-Atlantic Region this season by Soccer Buzz Magazine and National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).
