Georgetown Selected as Top Seed in 2001 ECAC Women's Soccer Championship

Centerville, Mass.-- After finishing the 2001 regular season with a 9-7-1 overall record, Georgetown University was selected as the number one seed in the 2001 ECAC Division 1 Women's Soccer Championship. Four teams were chosen to participate in the semifinal rounds by the ECAC Selection Committee.

Columbia University, the third seed, will host the semifinal and championship rounds on Saturday, November 17 and Sunday, November 18. The Hoyas will play fourth seed Binghamton University (12-4-2) at 12 p.m., while second seeded Fordham University (9-8-1), will face third seed Columbia University (10-6-2) at 3 p.m.  The championship game will feature the semifinal winners at 1 p.m. on Sunday, November 18.

Georgetown, under the direction of third-year head coach Diane Drake, finished the 2001 season with a 1-4-1 record in the BIG EAST. The Hoyas were ranked as high as ninth in the Mid-Atlantic Region by Soccer Buzz Magazine and the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). The 2001 season also boasted the first nationally ranked recruiting class in Georgetown history. The new Hoyas were ranked 37th in the nation out of 300 Division I schools and sixth in the Mid-Atlantic region.
