CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The Georgetown softball team (10-21) exploded for four runs in the top of the seventh, breaking a scoreless tie, to defeat host University of Virginia (7-17), 4-0 at the University of Virginia Tournament on Thursday evening. Sophomore Jennifer Connell (Roswell, Ga./Roswell) tossed a complete game, five-hit shutout, striking out six to earn her eighth win of the season. The top of the Hoyas order went a combined 7-for-12, as sophomore lead-off hitter Demetria Cipriano (Coral Springs, Fla./Coral Springs Charter) went 3-for-4 with an RBI and run scored. Through the first six innings, the Hoyas stranded seven runners on base, failing to capitalize on opportunities. That changed in the top of the seventh. After sophomore Sarah Kamenski (Mountain View, Calif./St. Francis) reached on an error and advanced to second on a groundout, Cipriano singled to right field to drive in Kamenski. Sophomore Samantha Peters (Suwanee, Ga./Collins Hill) doubled to drive in Cipriano and freshman Aimee Moffat (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) singled to drive in a run. Peters would later score to give GU a 4-0 lead and the eventual victory.
