WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The Georgetown University softball team (19-33) split a Sunday afternoon doubleheader with Central Connecticut State University (11-19), as the Hoyas came back to win game one, 7-4, before the Blue Devils rallied late in game two to win 5-4.

Sophomores Demetria Cipriano (Coral Springs, Fla./Coral Springs Charter) and Samantha Peters (Suwanee, Ga./Collins Hill) sparked the Hoyas offense in game one, while freshman Melissa Conners (Wellington, Fla./Wellington) earned a victory in relief. Freshman Aimee Moffat (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) drove in three runs over the course of the doubleheader.

Georgetown's bats got started early, as Cipriano led off the game with a double and Peters homered, her 14th of the season, to give GU a quick, 2-0 lead.

The Blue Devils responded in the bottom of the first inning, plating four runs, including three on Jaclyn Logan's three-run homer.

From there, it would be all Hoyas. In the top of the fourth inning freshman Jillian Webb (Hemet, Calif./Hemet) came on to pinch-hit and doubled to right field to drive in two runs. Cipriano followed with her second double of the game to score Webb and give the Hoyas a 5-4 lead.

Moffat singled up the middle in the top of the fifth inning, scoring Peters to add the GU's lead. Moffat would steal second base, move to third on an error and then cross the plate in sophomore Suria Bahadue's (Miami, Fla./Monsignor Edward Pace) bunt single, giving the Hoyas a 7-4 lead and the eventual win.

Conners earned the victory, allowing just three hits and no runs over 6.0 innings, striking out five.

Again the Hoyas got off to a quick start in game two, as Moffat singled to drive in two runs and freshman Kristi Preuss (LaPlata, Md./LaPlata) drove in Moffat, giving the Hoyas a 3-0 lead after the top of the first inning.

Freshman McKinley Cooper (McLean, Va./Langley) doubled to drive in Cipriano in the top of the fourth inning to give the Hoyas a 4-0 lead, before CCSU struck back in the bottom of the inning. Sara Burdick drove in two runs with a triple and scored to cut the Hoyas lead to one, 4-3.

Burdick struck again in the bottom of the fifth with her second two-run triple of the game to give the Blue Devils a 5-4 lead, the eventual final score.

Sophomore Jennifer Connell (Roswell, Ga./Roswell) took the loss allowing five runs, four earned, on seven hits over 5.0 innings.
