Washington, D.C. - Senior Cathy Richter (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) hit her second home run of the season in the first half of a doubleheader sweep over Coppin State today on Senior Day at Guy Mason Field. The Hoyas won the first game, 17-0 and the second game, 19-0. Georgetown improves to 12-37 on the year while the Golden Eagles drop to 0-22. In the first game, the Hoyas scored eight runs in the first inning en route to the 17-0 victory. A single off the bat of senior Lacey Campbell (Louisville, Ky./The Louisville Collegiate School) laced a single through the left side to score Richter for the fifth run of the inning. A fielder's choice RBI off the bat of junior Katharine Lang (Princeton Jct., N.J./The Lawrenceville School) brought home freshman Jennifer Connell (Roswell, Ga./Roswell), which was immediately followed by a two-run single off the bat of freshman Jadig Garcia (Zebulon, N.C./East Wake) to score Lang and Campbell for the seventh and eighth runs, respectively. Richter led off the second inning with a 225-foot bomb over the left-centerfield fence to put the Hoyas up 9-0. The Hoyas went on to score two runs in the third and six runs in the fourth inning to end the game. Garcia went 3-for-4 at the plate and recorded two RBI while freshman Olivia Newhouse (Weston, Conn./Green Farms Academy) went 3-for-4 and brought home five players. Connell pitched a complete game and allowed just three hits for her ninth win of the season. The second half of the twin bill saw the Hoyas pull ahead in the first inning yet again. The Blue and Gray scored nine runs in the first inning en route to the 19-0 victory. Georgetown picked up another run in the second and an additional two in the third inning and extended the lead to 19 runs on a seven-run fourth inning.
Freshman Samantha Peters (Suwanee, Ga./Collins Hill) led the team with four RBI and went for 3-for-3 at the plate. Richter added another three RBI as she went 1-for-1 and sophomore Katie Zoch (Hackensack, N.J./Hackensack) batted in three runs as she was 2-for-2 at the plate. Georgetown recorded a season-high 13 hits. Freshman pitcher Sarah Kamenski (Mountain View, Calif./St. Francis) tossed a one-hit shutout and recorded a career-high nine strikeouts for her third win of the year. The Hoyas return to action on Thursday, April 26 when they travel to Emmitsburg, Md. for a 3 p.m. doubleheader at Mount St. Mary's. |
