Georgetown Women's Swimming and Diving Defeats St. Francis, 137-79.

Georgetown's Lauren Moynihan (Fr., South Hadley, Mass./South Hadley), Rene Pierpont (So., Roseville, Minn./Roseville), and Sophia Adkison (So., Novato, Calif./Novato) were double winners on Saturday, January 22, helping GU defeat St. Francis, 137-79, in women's swimming and diving action at Yates Field House. Georgetown swept three events on the day and won all but two individual races. The win marked the second-straight victory for the Hoyas and moves their record to 4-6.

Moynihan won both the 200 freestyle in a time of 2:01.84 and the 500 freestyle (5:18.64). She led the sweep of 500 freestyle as Sarah Rose (Sr., Houston, Texas/Memorial) and Kathleen Johnson (So., Toledo, Ohio/Notre Dame Academy) finished in second and third with times of 5:40.03 and 5:41.30, respectively. Adkison posted the fastest times in the 50 freestyle (25.25) and the 100 freestyle (55.24). She was followed closely in the 50 freestyle by Liz D'Auria's (Fr., Newton, Mass./Newton South) time of 25.43 and Erin Lenahan's (Fr., Western Springs, Ill./St. Ignatius College Prep) 25.87 finish.

The Hoyas also swept the 200 I.M. event as Caragh Moynihan (So., New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan), Meghan Welch (Sr., West Chazy, N.Y./Beekmantown), and Kristie Hunt (Fr., Glenview, Ill./New Trier) each touched the wall in one, two, three fashion. Moynihan finished in 2:16.88, while Welsh and Hunt battled for second-place honors. Welsh, who came in at 2:17.20, beat Hunt (2:17.21) to the wall by one-hundredths of a second.

Pierpont won both the 1m diving and 3m diving events. She posted a 202.88 score off the 1m board and a 192.53 mark from the 3m platform. Second-place honors go to Catherine Hayes (Fr., Charlottesville, Va./Ablemarle) in the 200 freestyle (2:02.02), C. Moynihan in the 100 freestyle (55.56), and Francesca DiSilvio (Fr., Hingham, Mass./Hingham) in the 200 backstroke (2:15.05).

The Hoyas also finished second in the 400 medley relay as the team comprised of DiSilvio, Welch, Lauren Schmidt (So., Somerset, N.J./Bishop George Ahr) and Adkison recorded a time of 4:11.27.

The Hoyas are home for two meets this weekend as they face off against local rival Howard on Friday, at 6 p.m. at the Yates Field House before going against BIG EAST foe Providence on Saturday at 1 p.m.
