Men's Swimming and Diving Falls To Drexel in Final Dual Meet of the Season

Washington, D.C. - (Feb. 5) Despite double wins by Georgetown's Chris Lengle (So., Arlington, Va./Washington-Lee) and John Willey (Sr., Riverside, Conn./Greenwich), the Hoya men's swimming and diving team fell to Drexel by a 163-132 margin on Saturday at the Yates Field House. It was the Hoyas' final dual meet of the season prior to the BIG EAST Championships and the last home swim meet for four GU seniors.

Lengle won both the 50 and 100 freestyle races with times of 21.90 and 47.64, respectively. Willey was victories in the 200 freestyle (1:45.08) and the 500 freestyle (4:53.52). The two student-athletes were also members of the first-place 200 freestyle relay (1:28.06) team which also included Brendan Moynihan (Sr., New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) and Will Miller (So., Farmingdale, N.J./Freehold Boro). GU's Richard Dennis (Jr., Waterville, Maine/Waterville) also posted an individual victory in the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:02.82.

Other swims of note included Evan Behr's (Fr., Gwynedd Valley, Pa./LaSalle) second-place finish in the 1000 freestyle (10:35.66), and Ross Savedge's (Fr., Richmond, Va./Governors School) second-place mark of 2:00.25 in the 200 fly. Richard Dennis (Jr., Waterville, Maine/Waterville) touched the wall in 2:17.85 for second in the 200 breaststroke, while Miller posted a mark of 5:00.61 in the 500 freestyle, which was also good for second.

Bryan Evangelista (Fr., Northport, N.Y./St. Anthony's) came in second in three individual events as he swam a 1:47.22 time in the 200 freestyle, a 49.14 mark in the 100 freestyle, and a 53.21 tally in the 100 fly.

The Dragons held a 29-5 advantage in the diving events as Brett Daggett (Fr., Wauchula, Fla./Hardee), the Hoyas' lone diver, placed third in the three-meter event (186.3) and finished fourth off the one-meter board (161.63). Georgetown's 200-medley relay team, comprised of Moynihan, Dennis, Evangelista, and Lengle, won the event in time of 1:39.45.

The Hoyas will be in action again February 17-19 at the BIG EAST Championships which will be held at the Goodwill Games Swim Complex in Uniondale, N.Y. Preliminary events will start at 10:30 a.m. each day with the finals beginning at 6:30 p.m.
