EAST MEADOW, N.Y. – Georgetown University sophomore Katie Amaro (Shreveport, La./ Loyola Prep) finished 26th overall in the 500m freestyle at the BIG EAST Swimming and Diving Championships Thursday at the Nassau County Aquatics Center in East Meadow, N.Y.
Amaro entered the meet with the 27th best time in the conference in the event, after having posted a 5:03.88 finish in the 500m free at the Patriot Invitational earlier this season.
On Thursday Amaro timed 5:07.95, to place behind 25th place finisher Amy Miteff of Pittsburgh (5:07.92) and overall leader Becky Koch of Villanova (4:46.33). The top eight finishers in the preliminaries move on to the finals.
By lap, Amaro’s splits were 27.35, 57.48, 1:27.93, 1:58.71, 2:30.01, 3:01.55, 3:33.39, 4:05.12 and 4:37.26.
Amaro will join the rest of the team for the Northeast Conference Championships on Feb. 20-22. Additionally, Georgetown has qualified 15 athletes for the ECAC Championships on Feb. 27-29.
