Eight Swimmers Honored at Men's & Women's Swimming & Diving Banquet

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Georgetown University men's and women's swimming and diving team held its annual Awards Banquet in the University's Leavey Center on Saturday, March 24, with eight team members earning awards.

Sophomore Lauren Moynihan (South Hadley, Mass.) was named the women's team’s Most Valuable Swimmer. Moynihan set a new school record during the 2000-01 season in the 400 IM with a time of 4:42.53. She also swam this season's top time in three events, the 1650 freestyle, 1000 freestyle and 200 IM. Moynihan holds four all-time Hoya swimming records (500 free, 1000 free, 1650 free and 400 IM).

The men's team's Most Valuable Swimmer Award was presented to junior Chris Lengle (Arlington, Va.). Lengle holds the top times for the Hoyas in the 2000-01 season in three events. Lengle topped the charts with a 21.21 in the 50 free, 46.62 in the 100 free and 1:42.92 in the 200 free. He also holds the all-time Hoya record in the 50 free.

Head Coach Bethany Bower named a pair of freshmen the women's Most Improved Swimmer. Kathryn Harrison (Chatham, N.J.) and Colleen Newman (Staten Island, N.Y.) both received the award based on their improved performances during the course of the season. Harrison was a member of the diving team and finished 12th at the 2001 BIG EAST Championships in the one-meter competition. Newman set a personal best in the 1650 free at the 2001 ECAC Championship with a 17:47.75.

Jim McLauglin (So., Plantsville, Conn.) was deemed the Most Improved Swimmer on the men's team. McLauglin swam the season's best times in two events during the year, the 1650 free and the 1000 free.

Two senior captains received the men's Coaches Award for the 2000-01 season. Brendan Daly (River Forest, Ill.) and Rich Dennis (Waterville, Maine) were co-winners in their final season on the Hilltop. On the women's side, junior captain Caragh Moynihan (New Canaan, Conn.) received the Coaches Award. Caragh holds the all-time Hoya record in the 100 fly and swam the top times in the 50 free, 100 free and 100 butterfly during the 2000-01 season.
