WASHINGTON, D.C. - Georgetown swimming and diving honored its 2002-2003 season award winners and named its captains for the upcoming season.
The MVP Award went to senior Bryan Evangelista (Northport, N.Y./St. Anthony's) and junior Juliana Bonilla (West Covina, Calif./Covina). Evangelista posted the team's best times in the 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle, and 100 butterfly. Bryan capped his Georgetown career swimming the 100 Fly at the ECAC Championships, finishing in a time of 51.31 to set an all-time Georgetown record while finishing a school-best seventh. Bonilla accrued the most points this season in the one meter and three meter dive, setting a new GU record on the three meter board at the Patriot Invitational. A seventh place finish at the ECAC Championships earned her the right to enter the NCAA Prequalification meet where she placed fourth in the platform, narrowly missing the cut.
The Coaches Award went to senior Michael Dowley (McLean, Va./Langley) on the men's side and senior Liz D'Auria (Newton, Mass./Newton South) and senior Erin Lenahan (Western Springs, Ill./St. Ignatius) on the women's while Most Improved honors went to sophomore Kevin Walsh (Bethesda, Md./St. Anselms) and freshman Jen Sullivan (Yardley, Pa./Mount St. Joseph).
Also announced were Georgetown's 2003-2004 team captains. Junior Tim Reynolds (East Williston, N.Y./Chamrminade) and junior Edmund Caulfield (Caldwell, N.J./St. Peter's Prep) will lead the Hoyas on the men's side while junior Colleen Newman (Staten Island, N.Y./Notre Dame) and junior Erin Kehoe (Haddon Heights, N.J./Camden Central) will act as captains for the women.
