BALTIMORE, Md. – The Georgetown men and women’s swimming and diving teams competed against Loyola College this weekend in Baltimore, edging both squads thanks to strong performances in a number of events. The men finished with 139 points to Loyola’s 102 while the women edged Loyola with 132.50 to Loyola’s 104.40.
Freshman Katie Amaro (Shreveport, La.) turned in one of the strongest performances for the Hoyas, winning the 200 and 500 freestyle while Annie Moore (Blacksburg, Va./The Bolles School) took the 1000 freestyle and the 200 butterfly, also earning a fifth place finish in the 200 breaststroke. The top women’s diver was Juliana Bonilla (West Covina, Calif./Covina), taking first in the one and three meter diving events.
On the men’s side Kevin Rieffel (Ambler, Pa./La Salle College) took the 1000 freestyle and finished second in the 500 freestyle, an event won by senior captain Jim McLaughlin (Plantsville, Conn./Southington). Shodai Enters (Tokyo, Japan/St. Mary’s International) and Peter Nguyen North Potomac, Md./Heights School) took the 100 freestyle and 200 breaststroke respectively while diver Alan Fong (San Rafael, Calif./Marin Catholic) outclassed the competition in the three meter diving event.
The Hoyas host Delaware this weekend on Saturday November 2 at 1:00 p.m. in the Yates Field House.
