Georgetown Women's Tennis Drops Back-to-Back Matches to Seton Hall and at No. 36 Penn

Feb. 17, 2007

Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to BIG EAST opponent Seton Hall on Friday night at the Army-Navy Country Club in Arlington, Va. The Hoyas then traveled to the Levy Pavilion in Philadelphia for a match against No. 36 Penn (Fila/ITA Rankings) today. The Quakers dealt the Hoyas a 5-0 decision. This drops the Hoyas to 1-7 overall with a 0-2 mark in BIG EAST Conference play.

The Hoyas got off to a successful start against Seton Hall as the duo of junior Stephanie Cohen (Fayetteville, N.Y./DeWitt) and sophomore Courtney Olsen (Englewood, Colo./Colorado Academy) remained undefeated in doubles play, winning 8-4 at the second flight. The pair clinched the doubles point for GU as sophomore Kelsey Darnell (Annapolis, Md./Severn) and partner sophomore Briana Kearney (Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Forest) had already won the third flight, 8-1.

However, the momentum shifted as the Pirates took five of six singles matches for the victory. Two matches, including the deciding match at the second singles flight, went to three sets. Olsen recorded the only singles victory for the Blue and Gray with a decisive 6-3, 6-4 win at the top spot.

Against Penn, junior Adriann Gin (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou School) and partner Kearney took the Quakers to three sets; the third set was a 10-point super-tiebreaker with Penn winning 12-10.

The Hoyas return to the court on Thursday, March 1 when they host crosstown foe George Washington at the East Potomac Country Club in Washington, D.C. The match is slated for 9 a.m.
