Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 match to non-conference opponent Longwood on Friday afternoon at the McDonough Tennis Complex. The Hoyas fall to 3-15 overall on the year. Longwood improves to 10-6. The Lancers quickly took a 1-0 lead after winning all three doubles matches for the doubles point. Three-consecutive straight-set wins for Longwood at the second, third and sixth singles positions clinched the match for the Lancers. After winning the first set in a tiebreaker, junior Stephanie Cohen (Fayetteville, N.Y./DeWitt) dropped second set to force a third-set super tiebreaker at the top singles position. Cohen lost 10-2 in the super tiebreaker. Sophomore Kelsey Darnell (Annapolis, Md./Severn) won her first set but dropped the second set and lost a close third-set super tiebreaker. A straight-set victory at the fifth singles position gave the Lancers the clean 7-0 sweep. The Hoyas return to action on Tuesday, April 10 when they travel to Morgantown, W.Va. for a 1 p.m. matchup at BIG EAST Conference opponent West Virginia. The Hoyas are 0-5 against BIG EAST opponents.
