Women's Tennis Wins Two Dual Matches

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Hoyas nabbed two victories on Saturday, April 1, as they hosted South Carolina State University in the morning and Marist University in the afternoon. The wins push GU's women's tennis record to 6-9 overall.

The Hoyas began play on Saturday morning at 9 a.m. against South Carolina State by sweeping the doubles competition, losing only three games in the three matches. At #1 doubles, Lucky Ravindra (Sr., Lake City, Fla./Texas Tech) and Caroline Marshall (So., Pittsford, N.Y./Harley) defeated Aja Sterling and Janet McWillis 8-1. At #2 doubles, Lauren Mendes (Sr., Summit, N.J./Oak Knoll) and Ayana Brooks (Sr., Somerset, N.J./Franklin) defeated Janine Reasonover and Kanda Burgess 8-1. At #3 doubles Jean Roberts (Jr., Rye, N.Y./Rye) and Gina Kim (So., Lancaster, Ohio/Lawrenceville, N.J.) defeated Erica Lamar and Shawanda Vassell 8-1. Carrying a 3-0 lead the Hoyas moved to the singles competition. L. Ravindra defeated Sterling 6-0, 6-0 at #1 singles. L. Mendes defeated Reasonover 6-0, 6-0 at #3 singles. Brooks defeated Burgess 6-0, 6-0 at #5 singles. Sarah White (Fr., Westwood, Mass./Milton) defeated Lamar 6-0, 6-1 at #4 singles. Roberts defeated Vassell 6-1, 6-0 at #6 singles. The toughest match of the day proved to be the last on the court as Marshall was locked in a struggle with McWillis. Marshall saved seven match points before capturing the match and preserving the shutout. Marshall's score at #2 singles was 6-3, 4-6, 7-6(10). The final team score: Georgetown-9, SC State-0.

Immediately upon the conclusion of the match against SC State, the Hoyas began their second match of the day against Marist. The singles competition was contested first. Sarada Ravindra (Sr., Lake City, Fla./Texas Tech) scored a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Kara Bliss at #1 singles. White won her match at #3 singles against Kristy Salloum 6-0, 6-0. Kim Wattrick (Fr., Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich./University Liggett) defeated Claudine Habib 6-1, 6-0 at #4 singles. Hadley Muckerman (Fr., St. Louis, Mo./MICDS) defeated Jen Edwards 6-1, 6-1 at #5 singles. Kim defeated Allison Kaiser 6-3, 6-1 at #6 singles. Missy Mendes (Sr., Summit, N.J./Oak Knoll) defeated Nicole Johns 6-2, 6-2 at #2 singles.

With the sweep of the singles matches and an insurmountable 6-0 lead, the Hoyas doubles tandems took to the courts. At #1 doubles S. Ravindra and M. Mendes defeated Bliss and Salloum 8-4. At #2 doubles Muckerman and Wattrick defeated Johns and Edwards 8-0. At #3 doubles, Kim and Roberts defeated Habib and Kaiser 8-3. The final team score was Georgetown-9, Marist-0.
