Akron, Ohio - With a strong second day of competition, the Georgetown University women's indoor track & field team won the 2007 BIG EAST Indoor Track & Field Championship on Sunday at the Athletic Field House on the campus of the University of Akron. The women totaled 112 points to top Notre Dame, who was second with 101.60. It is the Hoyas' sixth women's indoor championship and their first since 2001. The men placed fourth with 82 points, trailing Notre Dame (133.50), Louisville (131) and Connecticut (81).

The Georgetown coaching staff of Ron Helmer, Pat Henner, Scott McLeod, Monica Hargrove, Hank Bradley and Ed Rice were named the BIG EAST Conference Staff of the Year at the end of the event.

On Sunday, the Hoyas had two individual champions and 11 medalist finishes. Junior Ashley Hubbard (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) won the women's 500m on Sunday and redshirt junior Elizabeth Maloy (Loudonville, N.Y./The Academy of Holy Names) followed a couple events later by winning the women's 3000m.

The morning began for the Hoyas with the women's 800m. Sophomore Avril Ogrodnick (Beaconsfield, Que./Beaconsfield) led the charge, placing third in 2:52.29, edging out Providence's Meghan Owen at the finish line for a medalist position. Freshman Lauren Gregory (Denville, N.Y./Morris Knolls) was eighth overall, setting a new personal record of 2:53.55.

Freshman Alex Bean (Somers, N.Y./Somers) continued his impressive initial campaign with Georgetown, earning medalist honors with a strong kick down the homestretch to place third in 2:26.15. Redshirt sophomore Brandon Bonsey (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) was fifth in 2:26.78, improving upon his PR that he set yesterday.

Georgetown held the third, fourth and fifth spots in the women's 800m finals.
