Georgetown Volleyball Drops 3-0 Decision to Marquette

Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown volleyball team was dealt a 3-0 (30-20, 31-29, 30-8) loss by BIG EAST Conference foe Marquette tonight at McDonough Arena. This is the fifth-straight loss for the Hoyas as they drop to 5-9 on the season, 0-2 in league play. The Golden Eagles improve to 6-8, with a 2-1 mark in the BIG EAST.

In game two, the Hoyas trailed 27-23 when they won five of the next seven points to pull within one point of the Golden Eagles. On the serve of sophomore Caitlin Boland (Naperville, Ill./Benet Academy), freshman Dana Dumas s(Nokomis, Fla./Pine View) recorded a kill and Boland served an ace to pull within one. With the score at 29-28 in favor of Marquettte, block assists from sophomore Jessica Buffum (San Jose, Calif./Lynbrook) and freshman Kiersten McKoy (Oakland, Calif./Bishop O'Dowd) would tie the score at 29. Marquette would win the next two points, the last off a kill from Leslie Bielski.

The first game saw the Hoyas with an early 9-6 lead but the Golden Eagles would even the game at 11. A block and a kill from senior Annie Connor (Los Altos, Calif./St. Francis) would give the Hoyas a 14-12 lead, however it was the last time Georgetown would lead the game. Marquette won the next four and continued to pull away for the 30-20 victory.

In the third game, Marquette jumped out to a quick lead (9-1) from an eight-point run. The lead would prove too much for the Hoyas to make a comeback as they lost the third game 30-8.

Connor led the team with nine kills and one solo block while maintaining a .280 hitting percentage. Buffum recorded eight kills, eight digs and block assist. Freshman Jessica Hardy (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Mira Costa) recorded six kills in the match - all in the second game.

 

 

Georgetown returns to action on Sunday, October 1 when they host Syracuse (3-16) at McDonough Arena. The Orange come off a 3-0 loss at USF tonight. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m.
