Georgetown Women's Volleyball Falls to Visiting Connecticut, 3-0

Washington, D.C -- The Georgetown University women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (30-23, 32-30, 30-13) decision to the visiting Connecticut Huskies this evening at McDonough Arena. Georgetown falls to 6-17 overall, 2-8 in the BIG EAST while UConn improves to 11-12, 3-6 in the league.

Hoya junior Annie Connor (Los Altos, Calif./St. Francis) led the GU attack with nine kills while sophomore Kate Fisher (Menlo Park, Calif./Menlo) handed out a team-best 28 assists. Junior Rachel Barton (Marietta, Ga./The Walker School) recorded a match-best ten digs.

UConn was led by Heather Ashley and Megan Crawley who each tallied ten kills. Ashley hit .444 for the match while senior Jenny Neelands hit a match best .636.

In the opening game, Georgetown battled back from a 14-11 deficit to tie the game at 16-16 on senior Rachel Nelson's (Sacramento, Calif./St. Francis) kill. UConn kept the pressure and recaptured the lead, 23-17 and Georgetown could not get within five points the remainder of the game as the Huskies won, 30-23.

Game two was see-saw battle. Georgetown raced out to a 10-6 advantage before UConn put seven straight points on the board to take a 14-10 bulge. The Hoyas would tie the game at 20-20 when sophomore Fisher and Connor blocked a Connecticut attack. Neither team would go up by more than three points the rest of the way. The game saw ties at 28-28, 29-29 on a Kate Nulty (Santa Barbara, Calif.Laguna Blanca) kill for the Hoyas and 30-30 before the Huskies pulled away 32-30.

In game three, Connecticut hit .684 and did not commit an attack error en route to a 30-13 win. Georgetown trailed from the start and quickly found themselves down 12-6.

Georgetown continues their season-long four-match homestand when they host St. John's University on Sunday, October 30 in a league match that begins at 3 p.m.
