Georgetown Volleyball Falls to Louisville, 3-0

Oct. 31, 2008

Louisville, Ky. - The Georgetown University volleyball team (12-10, 5-4 BIG EAST) fell to Louisville (11-10, 7-3 BIG EAST) 25-18, 25-18, 25-17 on Halloween-evening at the Yum! Center on the campus of Louisville University.

Junior Jessica Hardy (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Mira Costa) led the Hoyas with 12 kills and nine digs, while freshman Ashley Malone (San Jose, Calif./St. Francis) had 26 and five digs.

The Cardinals took control midway in the first set, using an 8-0 run to go up 20-11. GU ran off six straight of its own to close the gap to four, 22-18 but they would get no closer. Two straight kills by Louisville's Jana Matiasovska and an ace by Justine Landi gave the game to the UL 25-18.

In the second set, the Hoyas led as late as 9-8, but the Cardinals went on a 6-0 run to go up 15-10. Louisville continued to pull away, eventually winning the set 25-18.

The Blue & Gray stuck with the Cardinals in the third set, creeping to within two, at 19-17. But they could not surge ahead, as UL scored the last six points, including two straight kills from Gwen Rucker.

The Hoyas will conclude their weekend by travelling to Cincinnati to take on the Bearcats on Sunday, Nov. 2 at 2 p.m. Cincinnati enters its match with Georgetown 21-5, 8-2 in the BIG EAST, good for second place in the conference.
