Washington, DC - The Georgetown University women's volleyball game fell to the visiting Cincinnati Bearcats, 3-0 (30-20, 30-28, 30-26) this afternoon at McDonough Arena. The Hoyas fall to 6-20 on the season, 2-11 in BIG EAST play. Senior Rachel Nelson (Sacramento, Calif./St. Francis) paced the GU attack with ten kills in the final home game of her career while sophomore Katie Nulty (Sacta Barbara, Calif./Laguna Blanca) compiled nine kills to go along with her nine digs. Junior Rachel Barton (Marietta, Ga./The Walker School) made a team-best 15 digs. Freshman Katherine Niesen (Gainesville, Fla./Eastside) posted four kills and a team-best five total blocks. Cincinnati, winners of six of their last seven matches, hit .258 to Georgetown's .072. Three Bearcat players, Maria Pongonis (16), Jessie Nevitt (11) and Jessica Elley (11) all recorded double-figure kills. Nevitt hit a match-best .562. Game one was tight early, before a 6-1 run put the Bearcats into the lead for good at 10-6. UC hit .429 and won the opener, 30-20. Game two was close for the entirety. Georgetown found themselves trailing 27-23 before four consecutive points on Nelson's service knotted the game at 27-27. Cincinnati took the next two points and won the game 30-28. GU found themselves down 19-12 midway through the third game before battling back to get within 21-17 after five straight points. The closest the Hoyas would get would be 22-20 before Cincinnati extended their advantage to 27-24 en route to a 30-26 win. Nelson and fellow senior Ashley Lancaster (Huntsville, Ala./Huntsville) were recognized prior to the game for their contribution to the Hoya volleyball program. Georgetown will be back in action next weekend when they travel to Long Island University in a non-league game on Saturday, November 12.
