New York, N.Y. - Senior Caitlin Boland (Naperville, Ill./Benet Academy) recorded a double-double with 29 assists and ten digs, but it was not enough as the Georgetown University volleyball team (12-13, 5-7 BIG EAST) fell to St. John's University (20-7, 11-1 BIG EAST) in three sets, 25-17, 25-20, 25-13 on Sunday afternoon. For the Hoyas it was their fourth consecutive BIG EAST conference loss, dropping them to 5-7 in conference play. In the first set, the Hoyas played the Red Storm close early, as Boland assisted on four early kills to keep GU within a point, down 11-10. But St. John's went on a 6-0 run, taking a 17-10 lead, eventually taking the set 25-17. The Hoyas took control of the second set behind four early kills from senior Kit Niesen (Gainesville, Fla./Eastside) to help GU to a 9-5 lead. The blue and gray would lead by as many as six, as freshman Sara Manley (Dove Canyon, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic) had back-to-back kills to put the Hoyas in front 14-8. The Red Storm would reel off six straight points tying the set at 16, before the teams traded points to tie the score at 20. Kun Song had two kills down the stretch, as SJU scored the last five points to win the second set 25-20. Boland had 13 of her team-high 29 assists in the second set for Georgetown. St. John's carried the momentum into the deciding third set, taking an early lead and expanding it throughout on the way to a 25-13 victory to clinch the match in three sets. Junior Jessica Hardy (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Mira Costa) finished the match with nine kills and six digs and freshman Tory Rezin (Morris,/Ill./Morris) had 11 digs in the loss.
