Catherine J. Taylor (Class of '89) Inducted to the Georgetown Athletics Hall of Fame

Feb. 2, 2008

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Catherine J. Taylor (Class of 1989) became the third volleyball student-athlete inducted into the Georgetown University Athletic Hall of Fame, during the 19th Annual Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Dinner at Levy Hall on Saturday, February 2.

She joins Mary Jean Ryan (class of '80) and Justine M. Metz (class of '88) as the third volleyball player inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Taylor, a Brooklyn, N.Y. native, arrived on the Hilltop in 1985 and was an immediate impact on the program. She lead the squad in games played, kills, service aces and solo blocks, as well as helping the team triple its win total on her way to BIG EAST Freshman of the Year honors. Taylor was the first Hoya volleyball player to be selected to compete in the U.S. Olympic Festival and one of only two individuals to ever be named to the BIG EAST all-tournament team three times.

A force at the net, Taylor's name is still easily found in the record books. Her 1,755 career kills places her second all-time, while her 223 solo blocks and 135 service aces place her second and fifth respectively. Cathy's single-season numbers are still among the top in school history, with the fourth-most kills (519) and the third-most solo blocks (76).

Taylor graduated with a degree in Psychology in 1989, then earned her master's degree in education from Long Island University, before going on to teach special-needs children in the New York Public school system.

Currently, Cathy lives with her husband, Eric Gould in Ridgewood, N.J. with their four children: Julia (15), Taylor (12), Elyssa (10) and Ethan (7).
